Dear Parents and Guardians,
Reading Support and Intervention at English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College.
At English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College we recognise that the biggest barrier to raising achievement and attainment is reading. It is our aim to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to flourish and to advance with their reading. Without the opportunity to regularly practise reading, our pupils will struggle to fulfil their academic potential.
All students in Key Stage 3 have completed a Renaissance Star Reading Assessment. The assessment results have identified that your child would benefit from supplementary support with their reading. As a result, we have adjusted your child’s timetable to include additional reading and comprehension lessons. These lessons take place within the school day and are taught by a Reading Intervention Specialists. The classes will be small and will be personalised to accommodate the individual needs of the students.
After Easter your child will complete a second reading assessment which will allow us to monitor improvements and to tailor further support if necessary.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s reading, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,
Katy Phenix and Lucy Hannah
