The Learning Resource Centre (1.12) is the Hub of the school; it is a place where students can be sure of a warm welcome. It is a place to study, to read at break time, and to read before and after school in a safe and inclusive environment.
The library has recently been packed with new books and has been opened up to create even more space.

Books
We have a vast stock of resources encompassing all subjects, and a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. We update our stock on a regular basis, but welcome requests from students. Students can reserve titles which are kept for two weeks. We expect students to be responsible for the books issued in their name.
Please note: Two books can be borrowed at a time and must be returned before any more books will be issued.
Accelerated Reader
Students in Year 7-9 will enrol on the successful Accelerated scheme. Students will use the LRC to choose appropriate books, for their level, to read in lessons.
Student Librarian Scheme
We have a fantastic team of librarians at English Martyrs who show excellent commitment to the library. They have been involved in various activities this term, including organising lots of new books, giving out recommended reads, managing and organising the library, and they have even won an award for their efforts.
Our librarians were presented with a Librarian Award at Awards Evening. They received this for their commitment to and support of the school library.
IT and Printing Facilities
The LRC has 8 computers. Each computer is linked to a printer/photocopier which students can access using their individual usernames and passwords. To print, each student is given their own printing pin number. There is also an interactive whiteboard to use for presentations/DVDs.
LRC – Code of Conduct
The Library is a very popular area and as such students are expected to respect the needs of fellow students by following our code of conduct:
- Computers are assigned to students in order of priority: students wishing to complete class work, homework and research are given first priority.
- All users are responsible for materials borrowed in their name; all books to be returned within the 2 week borrowing period.
- Printing is available to all students; however, it must only be used for educational purposes.
- Sound on computers must not be heard by others.
- Students are expected to show a mutual respect towards one another.
- A fine for lost/damaged books will be issued. £3 for non-fiction, £5 for fiction or you can replace the lost book.
