Welcome
The English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College prides itself on the relationships it has formed with the Primary Schools across the town, especially with our six fantastic Catholic Feeders.
Here at English Martyrs we know how huge the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 can feel. It is important to us that our students feel excited for their new adventure, enthusiastic about their new fantastic curriculum and enrichment offer and supported pastorally through their journey from Year 6 into Year 7.
The transition programme that EMS has to offer is well thought out and suited to all students. Lots of time and energy goes into making sure that each child and their family feels supported and cared for through their journey. Pastoral care and the virtues we live by is at the forefront of everything we do.

Enrichment
The school runs a wide range of enrichment activities including extra study provision, sporting activities, musical, dramatic and cultural pursuits, foreign trips and retreat experiences. This aspect of school life is very important and is very much appreciated by the students.
Enrichment sessions run during a lunchtime and after school - the timetable changes each year so it won't be the same as this in September, however, to give you an idea of the fantastic opportunities available daily for your child, have a look at the timetable below.
House Teams
All students and staff are attached to a house in school. This creates a healthy competition and pushes students to succeed. Points are awarded for various events throughout the year, however, the main core of the points come from:
- Attendance per half term from the house as a whole
- Students who achieve 100% Attendance per half term
- Reward points which students are awarded for exceptional work or attitude shown around school
Each house has a House Leader and the five house leaders create the House Team. They organise the events and are another level of support for our students. Keep checking back as the house points update after every event.
As well as smaller trophies for events, there are five House Trophies up for grabs each year.
- The House Point Shield awarded to the house with the most collective points across the whole year.
- The Sports Cup awarded to the house who has the most points across all sporting events throughout the year.
- The Sports Day Shield awarded to the house who collects the most points on Sports Day.
- The Attendance Cup awarded to the House with the best collective Attendance throughout the year
- The Achievement Point Cup awarded to the House with the best collective amount of achievement points throughout the year
EMS School Catering
We run our own kitchen at EMS - this gives us a lot more flexibility with what we can offer the students. We have a 3 week menu and fantastic Meal Deal options to give our students healthy nutritious meals on a daily basis. The kitchen is open for Breakfast, at breaktime and lunch.
We are a cashless school, dinner money is added within our My Child At School app which students can then use at the tills. There is also the option for students to bring a packed lunch. There is more information here: https://ems.bhcet.org.uk/parents/school-meals
